View Full Version : Brakeless?
So what do people think about the new brakeless street revolution? it has its pros, but obviously its cons too
Wight savings
less to go wrong
cleaner/neater
i guess it improves technical tricks
a lot of brakeless street riders tend to be laods loads smoother, Ian Schwartz for example, without the ability to scrub speed in a session things look a hell of a lot smoother and tidier, and generally better to watch, with a bigger skill level involved
cons
obviosly no stopping power apart from ye olde shoe in the wheel
rear wheel tricks e.g. abubicas/fufanus will be 100times harder
manuals will be done withour feathering of the rear brake
hmmmmmmm im half tempted to give it a go
any opinions.........

if you want to come hurtling down a hill and into a lampost go ahead
BMX, not dh, look at the forum
I ran brakeless for about a year, its not as bad as youd think but now i have no shoes and hardley a tyre due to the good old foot in the wheel braking.
other than that id go for it, tempted to go back, brake levers just get in the way :[
Mikey and I and a few others but I've forgotten who saw a kid who had no brakes on his bike down at Westwick skatepark. He was good and I didn't see him crash into any lampposts. He was riding an old mountain bike of an obscure make.
I think most of the kids with BMXs that ride there don't have brakes and quite a few of them had hefty chains with padlocks on clanging against their frames while they were jumping about.
would imagine it would be fun try, i dono about on street but in a park could possibly be an advantage.

i koow you have hillish-looking ramps in street parks but yeah i rekon it could have some advantages like nothing waffing arround your handle bars
Id say its more of an advantage on street but not for park, just depends on the rider really.
