I'm afraid i missed the race today due to being in Halifax for my dads bday! however i did get to watch the webcast of the Cardiff downtown race: Great idea badly badly executed!!
It has got me wondering about arrange a race in Lincoln. i have lots of contacts in the city council (i work for the leisure department which also happens to include the city sports development team:D ) and thinking about it i think i may have come up with a good route, (especially if wood bits are added and it is made clear that a 4-6in bike is better than a 10inch squish bike, something a lot of folks were complaining about today)
main point on here is that a proposal to the people in the council always looks better coming from a committee or a small group of 3 or 4 people and also looks good if there is already interest from sponsors!!
So.... who doesn't mind putting some hard work in to help me arrange it (serious folk only please!!) and are there any businesses who would be interested in supporting such an event???
PS: don't start jumping around yet folks (well maybe a little;) ) this is just a logical and manageable idea... not concrete
Lincolns not long enough! If you were to take it down the highstreet, you'd have a 30 second run max.
If you were to take it anywhere else, youd have less!

that depends mate! if i was in lincoln i would have been out doing some test runs on the route i have my eye on as i think it could be over a minute... weaves about abit across the high street so adds some length to it!! as i said it would have to be a bit pedaly!! maybe something more along the lines of an urban 4x to spice up a short track??????
i work in a buisness and conference centre in grantham,so i could ask if any of them want to get involved chap......for example......springfield house, duncan and topliss chartered accountants, chandlers oil & gas ect.....i will try and get them interested......are you after money from these buisnesses or is it just backing for the proposal to the council...........the main man at duncan and topliss is john hindmarch and he is a well known figure throughout lincolnshire and is involved with the councils and lots of buisnesses around the county.....leave it with me and i will get back to you!!!:p :p.........its not what you know, its who you know

its mainly backing first mate! the idea is that companies will be able to buy various sponsorship packages offering various things for various prices... or go custom if required!
at the moment there is just a need for companies to show interest in the idea to show that the chances of financial backing are high if the council lets it go ahead!
I'd like to ask people to please refrain from discussing this outside of RATz if possible!! dont want people disapointed if a proposal is rejected!!

cheers mate! gonna put together a proposal over the next month or so and see where it gets me :) fingers crossed folks!!
I think the track could be made long enough! It'd be longer than the one at bridgenorth! But It'd be getting the streets closed! Its one busy place at a weekend! Good luck anyway!
i will ask around the buisnesses then to see who can and who carnt.........give me a few days please.........you never know,im quite convincing just ask the missus
How about go for the Edinburgh(sorry can't spell it ) Style and have a night do, that got loads of intrest and could be great fun, that therefore would give us time to have the race and not worry about traffic so much!
could we have a drop off the big arch thing on the high street please:rolleyes:

i'm assuming you mean the stonebow?? Will have to see mate!!
Aye thats probably the one, i think it would be a bit far out for H&S, they'll have us all using stabilizers before long!!!!! maybe a real big drop in/roll in for the last flatter part:D

generally mate everything will be rollable! however that doesn't prevent large tabletops and other features that can be hit fairly big at speed!! i am leaning towards 3 practice runs (solo), a seeding run (solo), and then a final 4x tournament with 4 riders racing head to head, best 2 through etc etc!!

No chance you'll have the time!
At bridgenorth we managed to get 2 practice runs, and almost missed my race run.
And good luck getting anything done to the stonebow. We're not allowed to put a shed up in our garden, at grade 2 listed. (next to the cathederal) Stonebow will be aye on impiossible to touch.

not having the shambles of the downtown mate!!! its called organization and it involves specific time practice runs: joe blogs in youth at 9:01 john doe in youth 9:01.30
split it up into categories and then do it alphabetically with 30secs between!! everyone knows exactly when they should be there for their practice! start early for people who registered early/day before and if people want to turn up late have it known that they will miss a practice!! also stops endless queuing!!
as for stonebow.... nothing to stop something under it???????;)

What kind of route you thinking of? Straight down steep hill and the high street?

no mate! i'm thinking of starting in square at top of steep hill (good shots for tourist board of cathedral and castle:p ) running straight down steep hill but instead of going down really steep bit keep on the road that sweeps to left and take the hairpin on the right instead (berm maybe to offer line choice??) down the road, past the bottom of the really steep bit and up over the brow (should have more than enough speed for it road sweeps round to the left and down! follow road downand take left between fancy dress shop and kind and straight across high street down path next to pizza express!! turn sharp right and down onto road outside connexions! go down side of connexions and down steps next to jail house rock bar (thin bottleneck:D ) before coming out onto silver street and turning right towards high street!! turn left at natwest and under stonebow (tourist board!!) before heading past primark over bridge (tourist board shot of stupid statues next to wilkos)and running down to finish outside tourist information!!!
would be a bit pedally but i'm pretty sure its managable (even on a DH rig) and it should be somewher in the 1min-1min30mark!! long for a 4x and reasonable for an urban dh

I like the idea of the first bit, going aroud the roads on steep hill rather than straight down, i just feel like it'll be to flat in the middle section for too long on a big rig and the logistics of getting these area closed down. Even if we did the night race thing, your gonna have to dodge the drunks on high street. Would be good to have one though.
During the day, then you would have to shut down pretty much every shop on the highstreet for the day, or if you did it at night, it would take you through many of the pubs / clubs ETC, which if you did it on the weekend (which doubtlessly it would be on) you'd have to get alot of police / security to stops pissheads running onto the track.
Plus on a big bike, that track would be quite pedally. Plus you'd probably have to get alot of wood ETC to make berms - most of those corners are incredibly tight.

the intention would be to have berms on the tight corners! it would be quite pedaly but on most of the flatter bits there are decent slopes running into them so it isn't as bad as it seems!
this is only my preferred choice of route, it would be up to the city council to say yay or nay to whats possible! if this is the routes that can be run then great if not then there are other routes that could be taken!!

also it wouldn't involve closing shops as we aren't running straight down the middle of the high street for the most part, and when we do we will only be using 15ftish in the middle of the street! plenty of room for folks to walk up and down the high street on either side! if we have organized crossing points then it would make things even easier for people to get from one side of the track to the other!
keep the criticism/ideas coming folks!!
