View Full Version : Hamsterley Winter Series Round 2 - A short write up
Would just like to say a big congrats to Rob Cook for such a great weekend at the races.
Having never riden hamsterley he took the brave move of accepting our invite to race this weekend thinking that i too was racing, however due to a late operation coming last monday i couldnt :( So he then took the even braver move of taking the race by himself!
So saturday morning he set off the start mound and by the first corner he was hurtling XD Nutter! Having a few rather impressive stacks right where i was stood with a camera in practise also made for good learning! Nailing the hardest section time after time that many people didnt manage a clean run through over the whole of the weekend was also great achievment! And if that wasnt enough he pinned the final drop on his first run! Way to go bud!
So the races come on sunday and in practice he was nailing all of the sections at ''warp'' speed and he was one of the few people again to get smooth quick runs through the switch backs which now have nice pointy rocks right where you dont need them!
So all was looking good, 1st run he made it down with a very respectable 2.30 with the leader getting 2.11, this put him in 17th place and he managed it with a crash that made him go off the side of the track hurrying to get back on his bike! So me and my dad drilled it into him that a clean run could move him way higher and on the second run he pinned it again.
Maybe he was going for a crazy good time too hard or more likely the impact of full runs on an amazingly tough and battering track was taking its toll and this caused 2 crashes this time however he still only got 6 seconds slower than his first run.
So over all at the moment we think he will be around the 17th place position and out of 27 this is something to be very proud of under the circumstances!
I recon the fellah deserves a pat on the back, well done chunky monkey :D
Currently working on the almighty teenage persuasion with robs parents, to get him to race the next and final round, i will be there for sure, anyone else planning on it? Highly recomended

A few videos from practise on saturday, not the best quality because thyre off my phone but there are more, better quality ones to come with yet more falls and there are some pictures too!
Might take a few more minutes to ''transcode'' as said on pinkbike so try them at 8.30pm onwards, should be ok by then
right the vids on pinkbike are been a pain so i have so far uploaded to best video off my phone - http://s137.photobucket.com/albums/q240/BakerDh/?action=view¤t=SV_A0017.flv
Great weekend's racing even though only one out of three was fit to ride! Saturday was freezing cold but sunny on and off. Sunday was supposed to be a wash-out but we just escaped. The top and bottom sections were as ace as ever. The middle section took a route I hadn't seen before, down a long, straight and very steep rocky, rooty chute. The marshall there reckoned 1 in 3 riders were crashing! Baker got phone video of Rob Cook doing just that. Rob did real well finishing about 17th (TBC) in the youth section.
The only problem with the weekend was when I found Rob reading (or just looking at the pictures anyway) "Rugby Player Monthly"......Hmmmmm.
Well done Rob, takes guts to fly the RAT'z flag solo on a strange course.:rez:
Haha i forgot to mention the disturbing time that rob was sat with his magazine! I think the sub-heading of the mag was ''Men topless''
Would there be any chance of getting some jerseys done soon? Last time i asked about them you mentioned people not comng to a decision about the look of them although me and rob would both be more than happy racing under the final design you come up with? If it is a possibility how soon would they be available and how much roughly do you know please fragy?

I find that hard to believe I once hit 37mph down pingle hill in gains and I literally could'nt pedel/roll any faster it was physically and mechanically impossible the law of physics would not allow it :)

Yer I think so what date is it, 13th feb in it
No 10th is the Sunday, i recon we'd be leaving Scotch Corner at around 7.45-8am
7.45!!!!! Last time we left Scotch Corner that early, the car caught fire.
Hahaha I like the way kenny has this situation under control :)
the car caught fire.
It was only a small one, no flames ;) This time we might get the full works :) 7.45 it is then, then we can get there for about 8.15 and get 2 practice runs in and doss about :)
