dare i admit to having just bought a hayes brake?
guess so...
my bikes back on the road now :)
i havent admitted defeat, i just needed to get my bike running.
now i have bought myself some time to desing and fabricate a new floating mount for the dh9 :)
Hayes all the way YEEEAAAAAAAAAAH, dont worry plastic internals DO work, mine are as good as ever
i dont know much about hayes but scott beaumonts works pretty dam good on the front of my bike
so how did it perform sime, are you a believer
DO YOU BELIEVE

well i cant really comment just yet as they havent had time to bed in yet, but:
side by side with my mono6 they look and feel very cheap (and they are mk2) and it was a total pain setting it up compared with the hope.
performance wise.... hmm like i said not bedded in yet but neither is the hope.... hope feels much better...
i best get my finger out my a** and get the floating mount fabbed up quick then i can ditch hayes and live happily ever after.
i prefer hope, just dont like the lever feel of hayes. dunno why, just the way it is!
they feel very comfy to me. hayes on the front is good because it has a bit more give than hope so u can have a more controled fr
ont
i disagree, i think that hayes feel more on/off where as hope feel more like you can give the amount of power you want. might just b me tho!

hope have a much more controlled and positive feel than hayes imho, even my old c2's seem better... but each to their own i guess
thanks simon, thats what i was trying to say lol
Im a Hope man myself also. the hayes levers are a bit longer and a bit chunkier. thats the reason im not keen on them. oh and even thought the pistons are composite, as long as you keep them clean you shouldnt have a problem. it has been know that the pistons can crumble if they gaet a lot of grit and generall crap in them once they get hot
i think at the end off the day personal preference is the only thing thats matters, i have never had a pair of hopes, ridden them yes, but getting so used to the hayes feel i think iam sticking with em for a fair while and prefer the ON/OFF'ness of them. Although since this topic was started haye have baught out the almighty El Camino

with tooless modulation adjustment (via the lever) and lever reach adjustment, light and nible enough for XC, powerful enough and controled for DH, awsome

Ok, so i wont state "my personal opinion" even though i am running both hope and hayes.
Hope are designed more for UK riding (wet/muddy etc etc) where as hayes are designed more for the USA (dry/dusty etc)
Where do we live?
;)
True. Thats why they make the pistons from plastic. UK ridin, UK brakes.
but all that adjustment would come in handy out on a ride. but sayin that wouldn't you allready have your levers and brakes all set up before you go anywhere?? so is it all necessary? all that adjustment is reflected in the price

is it not the same as the dial on top of hopes old pro levers? that allowed adjustment to the ammount of force needed to apply the brakes, and there is a reach adjustment screw too... same old same old?
I reckon that we have duty to purchase the products made in Blighty! Don't wanna spend money on American stuff when there's better British stoppers eh?;)
better for the conditions ya, i dunno, id like to have the money to try both out in england then in america, would be interesting. but at the end of the day i think it would still come down to personal preference.
I have some Hope mono M4 they have been brill untill hose connection came loose and lost lots of fluid, i would recomend them to any one.
I really like my magura Julies. They come ready to ride and the instructions say they only take about 10 breakins to bed in and they were totally right. The rotor's i think look real good too(wavey) and i personally love the feel of the levers
Yeh i've got julies too i got em with my wheelset. deore disc with mavic 321's for £180. They coulbn't be better. Bed in quick and have very good stopping power
My rear hayes hfx mag on the rear of my identit worked really really good but the pads need replacing now so its not that good.
I think in my personal presfrance though that the hope are better.
Hope all the way, especially now they've taken the braided hose route as standard, thus removing the "swell" power loss factor.
I admit that you haven't the flexibility of say the Caminos or Juicy's in terms of cockpit mounted adjustments, but when you have a correctly bleed system that is to your personal lever feel, then you have a system you can leave and rely on for almost an entire season.
People comment on the squeal you tend to get from Hopes', but again on a correctly set up system and one that has the pad area regulary flushed to rid of contaminants (mine have just started to squeal, but only after three weeks of non-cleaning) this should not be an issue.
Ben
always had hopes and loved them, however on big dh courses always had problems frying them, especialy in les gets. and for this reason i've moved to hayes. so much easier to set up. admitedly they are more on/off then hopes but i havent fried them yet!
jay.
im still liking my mono m4, i think ill get one for the front too.
I have found that if you pay a little extra you get that extra stopping power that feels solid
I loved the hopes on my shred(just minis) adn there great for local riding, but when they went to caresws they really overheated on the decents, where as my saint ones didnt, they just wobbled around and changed gear everytime i crashed lol:umm:
Stopping power on saint is great....wobbly gear changing not so good for downhill
