View Full Version : Helmets
its seems a few people have got new lids,so what do ya reckon to them etc etc ;)
i quite like my 661 carbon it has a great finish and has a quick buckel instead of d rings :badmood: which i hate and it vents really well, however i feel the chin bar needs to be wider making the goggle appature smaller =more face protection
im really pleased with my D2 hardtop, some people question their venting but i reckon its fine, the wide face area kind of compansates for less holes/vents.My oakly goggles fit comftibly in it,
fastening wise i have always had D ring fastening so am quite used to it, not an issue really
and last off all imho, like all troylees it looks the part,

just wish i could get my new one on my head :/
i cant fault my cratoni, although the model i have has been replaced by the "interceptor" damn i wish i could get hold of one in this country.. light, excellent protection/fit/comfort, and many slots for ventillation.....

and making vision less? ;)
well the correct size of my new one should be here tomorrow:)
personally i dont like the shape of the 661s, the "flight" looks good, but how long will the plastic bit on the back last, and then it just looks like all the others.
troy lee d2's hmm lets just say some crap designs this year, especially the carbon:/ (imo)
what else is there hmmm...
Troy Lee set the standards man. you look at the majority of pros that wear a troy lee.....loads. cannot fault mine. bought it because i love the looks and the name is a repitable one. word
i cant fault a moto-x lid (my fox tracer) that cost £50. excellent protection even if it is a little hot.
something iv noticed while watching "drop in tv" is that alot of the crew are wearing 661 lids. not the top of the range bravo or flight but the £69.99 full comp. anyone know any good reasons for this?????

i bought one of those fangly troy lee se mx helmets, and promptly returned it. way too heavy and way too big for my liking and was a little uncomfy... maybe i have a big head or summin as it was hard to put the thing on. or maybe its too much hair. anyway i am still on the lookout for a new helmet... getting very tempted to order another cratoni from gemany....
any suggestions?
troy lee composite flash coming sometime this week................. i ate my words.
my tracer saved my life but i still think its too heavy
actually, im in two minds as to whether i should get another tracer.
sure the troy lee's look fantabulously awesome, but looks arent everything. REALLY.
so whats everyone got to say for which is safer???
well some of the worlds best riders seem to think they are suitable,
steve peat
sam hill
nathan rennie
Greg Minaar
so on and so forth
and a company like troy lee, i am sure intense testing would have been done to assure people
u are of course correct lol, iv been on the website reading about the testing aswell. and for the reduction in weight, and the increase in venting and visibility i think its a sound choice, so i'll be purchasing the rather nice blue composite flash, i beleive its called soon.

without doubt the motorbike helmet would be safer, approved to protect your skull at 70mph!
but at a cost.
old ground now..
i am not too keen on this years troy lee designs, previous years have been much better. i put of buying a helmet untill the new year (unless i have to), then i can see what fresh designs there are, or simply order another cratoni;/
does sound like a plan u have there, the new TLD graphics look bonza!
check em out!

wouldnt mind waiting for one myself but i dont think i could stick waiting for them to be released to ride!
well they certainly knew what they were doing by keeping the best design for 06 aswell as 05 just added a little rubber thing for you to pull of when it snags on your bars whilst carrying it
http://photo.pinkbike.com/photo/580/pbpic580610.jpg
i t does look a bit pointless, you see nose protectors like that on mx lids, but its supposed to work by sitting flush with your goggles, and that really doesnt look big enough

Scanning through the new TLD brochure, i can see my new helmet..
much better designs for 06 i think.
View it here (http://www.troyleedesigns.com/pdf/06_bike.pdf) (adobe reader required)
carbon, with bluegrey camo flames.... you know it.
noticed the other day i have a crack in the internal foamy bit of the helmet, gutted,. should be OK though,.. i hope
look into the crash replacement warranty. in the handbook you got with it. should be able to get a new one on the cheap.
i thought this new specialized looked pretty cool

lots of big vents and they do a plain carbon one as well,i don't know how much tho :hmm:
I really like the new Azonic Fury. It has quite a nice design and the front and peak kinda look like the Troy Lee. Some of you might have seen it in MBUK modled by some lass with drawins all ofer her face (mushtach etc.) ###ADMIN--moustache is the correct spelling, good effort though :thumb:

they are mx helmets.
Iv got a 661 Full comp, its ace, quite light and at a nice price.
Yeh i think all 661s are reasonably priced. i have a flight and that is rrp £200 ( i got it for £150 in the sale) nice paint job and carbon kevlar and fibreglass mix too. not much more you can ask for out of a lid
Does anyone know what the Bell Bellistic helmets are like. I've got 65 quid and i'm looking into a full face. Any suggestions?
save a bit more, go to royles and get a 05 troy lee cheap, thats my suggestion
dont know, royles website shop is currently out of service, the 06 ones looks nice

£195 a throw from www.descentworld.co.uk
05 designs i have seen go for £130 at royles depending on the sizes availible
they do indeed. now i've had a troy lee for a while i dont think i could go back to an mx lid.
theres a cratoni (which simon reccomends) in rasen bikes for (i think, correct me if im wrong ben) £45 it looks pretty cool too.
Dave. Bell Bellistic, good helmet. its what i was wearing on sat up at the hill. the grey one. doesnt get too hot either coz there are quite a few vents.

Thats slightly misleading, i recommend the one i have, the V1 and its sucessor, The interceptor, which is something silly like £250 or something.
sorry, my(i'm ?) bad, i assumed you mean't cratoni helmets as a whole.
*ADMIN check before you post
I saw the Dan's Bell Bellistic on saturday and i thought it was rather good. I know its my head but a Troy lee is too much money for me. I was in Rasen Bikes on saturday but didn't really look at helmets. i'll have to go another day.
For the money, the bell is a good choice, if its good enough for Gracia. would like to spend 200 on a helmet but its alot of money when the bell will be tested to the same standard nd less than half the price.
My argument was that it's good enough for Gracia to use it's good enough for me to use
I agree with that, but I dont really like to look of some Bell helmets. Its all a matter of taste.
i am pleased with my 661 comp, ive had it a year and it has never let me down.
my 661 carbon full bravo certainly saved my noggin today :D as i lost the front, the bike went one way and i the other and headbutted a tree still going a far speed :( i've got mild head ache, nothing compared to not wearing a lid/fullface ;) helmets are ace
The azonic fury is £65 pretty sweet too. Think it is fibre glass. looks kind of like bens troy lee
What does anyone think of these:

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=8634
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=8612
I was considering the Bell but look at CRC I rather like the look of the Azonic. Can any help?
hmmm outa them 3 i would say go for the azonic, the matt black looks really nice although if you really wanted my opinion save a bit more and get a troy lee, just got my 06 red inferno and its great :)
Thats over triple the cost though, suppose it's ok for some. I was thinking of ordering all three from CRC, buying the one that fits and feels best and sending the others back.
thats if you got £180 in the first place to do so, even then they may be a bit iffy about you doing so. (for £180 you can get a troy lee ;) )
No but that'll only be temporary because i would get 120 back. I dont know I'll probably go for the Azonic because it looks awesome.
http://catalog.troyleedesigns.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1123
is that what you got Ben?
yeah, for 06 i have noticed a few design changes, aswell as the obvious nose guard bit visible on most internet pics the chin guard concealed undernieth is less outa the way than before but would still comfort your chin in an impact. The internal padding is a hell of a lot softer and better fitting and the visor adjustability has increased, all good small and effective touches :)
Finally got my helmet. A bell bellistic in black, really nice helemt really light and comfy also very well vented. A bit of a balls up though, because i ordered the azonic fury first but that was to small, so i've got to send that back.

finally got my new lid today.. after much waiting for its release..
Giro Remedy CF, very nice it is too. Looks the dogs in its stealthy black /grey and carbon :)
Its about the same weight as my cratoni which is good, but it isnt as comfy.. yet. the cratoni has had a good few years planted on my head.
There doesnt seem to be as much padding as in my old one either and its a bit tight on my chubby cheeks.. but i am gonna take out those pads and compress em for a bit, that should fix that.
One other thing is that they dont grip my glasses aswell, this could be a problem, we'll see.
But i am happy with it.
Now for those bling oakley factory pilot gloves.... in white and carbon.. bo!
i got a set of oakley factory pilot golves in all black friggin comfy!
Woooo sounds nice! I love carbon on gloves! Looks soo good, bit more protection too!

After wearing the new helmet for most of yesterday, i am very impressed with it. I compressed the padding for a few days which made a lot of difference, although more compression is required. I didnt get too hot either, always good. Its light enough not to notice and has a good sized opening for visibility without loosing out on protection. Mine was 120 in the CRC sale ;)
If your looking for a new helmet, this one should definately be on the list.
It is so much better looking than the mad max.
Ya it really looked nice! Not too bulky and looked to have pleanty of decently placed vents! Love the colour sceme too not too outstanding but nice!
if ever there was a reason to wear a helmet http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Helmets-Wear-one-2007.html
Ah man, that is crazy!!! I cant stand wearing just a p*** pot never mind no helmet at all
