Me and Dave have been talking and we have come up with a cool road tripish idea.

When we went on holiday in the summer, we went to dalby cycle skills area (which is ace) and the awsome DH run in wyhekam forest. Since then Dave has found i site with advetises another DH run some where in wyhekam village and another in dalby itself.

So we were woundering if anyone way iterested in going and checking them out one day?

http://www.bikeoutletracing.co.uk/directions.php the site where the other run is.

:freak: :D

Well we've ridden the dalby skills area loads thats quite cool, we've never ridden the dalby downhill. But theres a downhill run in wyhekam forest which got me into downhill. It was quite scary when i'd only been biking 2 months and when my saracen was basically stock still, the forks didn't like it and i could hardly stop with V-brakes, but since then i have found that link i don't know much about that track really but i know it's there. We just thought it might be a good idea going to them 3 or 4 places for a day.

Yeh sounds cool. Can't beat a DH road trip. The Dalby skills area is certainly amazing. Me and my dad went in the summer holidays but didn't know about a DH track in there but yeh it will be awsome. May be camp over - Dalby has a camp site because it might be a lot to get into one day?

[[Thought this was more of a hookups thread so i moved it]]

Hehe, me and Ben where talking about a similar thing when the weather warms up a bit.

A 2 dayer, Taking in all dalby has to offer then wykham and carlton bank. All are a short travel from each other so should make a fun weekend.
Then of course theres the evening camping :)

Dalby has a lot more to offer than it sounds like you have seen, but at the cost of a push up (poor mr fish).
And i know the coolest campsite close by :)

Roll on Summer!

A 2dayer sounds better then we will have more time at the places, carlton bank looks cool.

can't wait!!!

Let us know when you go up and maybe we can hook up...Dalby DH is something different, but there is a much cooler DH track that reeks of undergroundness that you have to ride :hombre:

This road trip will be awsome if it goes ahead. Dalby is really fast when it is damp me and my dad went on a scorcher of a day and were talking to a xc bloke who had being on the tracks and they were slightly wet but still fast. (It had rained the day before if you are wondering why it was a scorcher but wetish)

Will
15-01-06, 22:45
yeah dalby has that effect, either wetish or Sh*tty boggey cr*p so i think it would be better to do something in the summer (might have a full sus by then lol)

jack
24-01-06, 22:01
can't wait!!! i'm aiming to have a car by mid summer sort of time (fingers crossed, i might even be able to help someone with transport lol) so i should be along for this trip. do you have any idea at all of a more precise date of when you'd like to do this?

True Saxon
28-04-06, 17:16
Well the weather is picking up... time to bump this thread into action.... i suggest the weekend 27-28 of may, that gives everyone a month to get it sorted. (I dont know if theres any racing that weekend, is only a sugestion to get things rolling).

After talking to marke and co last weekend, it sounds like a lot more has been done since i was last there, aparently there is a 1km elevated trail now and the skills area has been extended and and and all sounds good to me.

bring it on..

Will
28-04-06, 17:32
I am at a gig on the 27th so i wont be able to make it. When i was last at dalby i was the NS had started but that was it, just started not really anything to see.

Could go on another date aswell like the 17th and 18th of June right after my exams!

did some building up at wykeham over the xmas holidays with some of the local riders, frazer, pete and some others whos names i cant remember (sorry lads if you are reading this)
Left them some north shore timber from my firm to build a few launchers too
fairly easy to find too as is the dh track in dalby that has never opened and is too short too 40 seconds top to bottom is just poor...and thats going easy
its 10 mins from the bottom of wykeham dh course
the wykeham course is very pedally in sections and can kill you on the push to the top up the slippy tarmac footpath
the best fun is from halfway and to park at the bottom as its pooh pushing up for 15 mins to go home in the van

I like the sound of 27-28th i think my dad does too, so now it depends what my mum says! There are no midlands races on that weekend either but they are the only ones i know of! keep us posted on what happens and we'll try get there.

Which DH track are talking about in wykeham becuase isn' t there 2 the only, one that of is near a view point straight off the road from wycombe village?? Its about a mile long or something like that!

singatini
28-04-06, 21:52
theres only 1 dh track in wykeham and a few in dalby but the original dalby dh was closed due to it not being finished by singletraction i think.
it was souless anyway in a straight line with 3 baby drops and 1 6 foot gap
still there last time i went in the summer its at the end of the dalby drive nearest wykeham

dave_mawe
28-04-06, 21:56
I think there's 2 there's one that me and will know about near the eagle viewing point and another which the bike outlet hold, the one on the ride central video.

singatini
28-04-06, 22:26

the race in dalby on the ride central video is the same place as on the bike outlet link, but me n will know of another course wich is about a mile long and a 15 minute push up nothing amazing and it's not very well known but it's still a DH track

Dave,
Any chance you could send me some directions to this other dh track at wykeham near eagle viewing point?
How close is it to the track the bike outlet use?
Were heading up there this saturday and it would be good to check out the other track while were there
Cheers

It approximately where the wykeham forest is on that map, if you turn of the road in brompton opposite the small tractor place is, it has a couple of tractors outside it. but turn off there and follow that road round, past a farm n a couple of fields with baby christmas trees in past the eagle viewing point and you'll aventually come to a clearing where another road meets the main track and there a T junction theres a clearing and you can park your car there and you can see across the valley. facing the valley turn left and head into the forest, follow the forest track for a bit maybe 200/300 yards n it'll branch right, go right and follow for maybe 50 yards theres a couple of broken crates in the floor, go right here n the track kinda starts there. just follow it down, there are 3 sections to the track that, each are divide by tracks. Email me at silver_chair6688@hotmail.com if you need more precise directions or anything clarifying. It's all in my head and quite difficult to explain landmarks and things.

Me and fragy went up there yesterday (met up with markE and co).
Wow, lots of development since i was there last year.
The skills area has been extended, the track is much longer now and drops off into the woods.. nice. and not as pedally as i remembered :D
A new line from the main start consists of 3 pretty big tabletops :)
Theres also a line of skinny leading down from the start, this was fun, but has a couple of tight turns (tight on a dh bike anyway).
After a bit of a trek, and lots of pedalling/walking and decending, we finally found the 1km of timber trail. This is real fast but not technical at all. I was a little disapointed to find that it was just a straight run down in an old ditch. The speed made up for its lack of technicality. This was followed by a fairly long rocky run, not steep but fast as...... until i came off!

Dalby is starting to rock! definately worth a day/weekend up there, if you can handle the walking.
And theres another year+ of building to be done!

Lets hope there are plans for a proper downhill course in there too :filthy:

Nice one, i'm planning to go up there some time after my exams, so thats like in a month :), really looking forward to it now!

Will
29-05-06, 14:56
Baker do you fancy going when i/we go, if your dad isn't at work?
And anyone else??

dave_mawe
29-05-06, 17:04
I think it could be made into a long day trip. set of in reasonable time and get a couple of sessions in now the evenings are light. My dad said he wanted to go the other day. and i'm suppose to be renovating the trailer so aslong as it coinsides with my dad's off days we could take 2 extra people in my car with bikes in the trailer

Will
20-06-06, 19:43
I'm off up to wyhekam on the 2nd probably with Dave, anyone fancy a trip too?!?!

dave_mawe

Will
20-06-06, 21:31
Its in North yorkshire to get in to dalby its £5, wyhekam is free just pure downhill i think its about 1 mile from top to bottom, only problem is you have to push back to the top!

Fwogddy
20-06-06, 21:32
