OK, Rasen Bikes has been given the a one off opertunity to be the only Intense tyre dealer in Lincolnshire (nearest being Nottingham, West Yorkshire and Rutland cycling) this, although a major bonus for buisness and you the consumers i need feedback on peoples first impressions of the Intense tyre range and wether or not you would buy these tyres.

Here are the tyre specs of the tyres specific to downhill and racing (although the racing tyres arnt as solid guidelines and can be used for general purpose they are made of a softer compound similar to a maxxis super tacky)

Intense FRO (for Race Only) MTB Tyres

Intense Tyres For Race Only (FRO) line is built using their exclusive Sticky Rubber compound and their 4-ply FRO casing. These two components in combination create a ride quality that is unmatched in mountain bike tyres today. The FRO casing delivers increased traction, better flat protection and shock absorption. The Sticky Rubber compound is so good it has the press touting it as the best and the competition scratching their heads.

Intense EX MTB Tyres

Created specifically for light downhill and freeride applications, all tyres in the EX line are constructed using the new 36 tpi 2-ply EX casing and the re-formulated Comp 60 compound. When Intense's full blown FRO tyre is too much and their Cross-Country tyre is not quite enough, the EX line will handle everything in between.

I for one will have a couple of pairs on back order, a pair of FRO racing tyres for summer and racing use and a pair of lightweight DH tyres should be interesting (less rotating mass etc should make a drematic differencs in acceleration)

Tell me what you think and if these type of tyres appeal to you, prices will be very similar to its maxxis competitors (around £26 each not including member discount)

tell me what you think (dont forget there super heavy duty DH tubes and moto X style tyre levers)

I probably wouldn't want tyres although the world cups and DH look quite good. But I need a descent spare tube (skinny valve, whatever that is Presta I think)

Well, the intense world cup in a sticky rubber is very similar to, lets say a super tacky high roller, both come in 2.5" (although the maxxis 2.5" does seem skimpy compared to others the same width)

2.5" world cup RRP £29.95
2.5" High roller RRP £24.99

Both have 2 ply casing
the maxxis is 60tpi where as the world cup 38tpi (threads per inch in the tyres casing)
The intense are 4 strand wire beaded where as the maxxis are regular wire beaded
The Maxxis weigh 1250g, the intense just 130g more
So like for like a very similar product, the maxxis are cheaper but then the Intese are only £4.96 more

Ok, they are a bit expensive rrp but i suppose all the quality tyres are the same. I also might be interested in a pair of world cups for summer.

I've never gone more expensive than Tioga Factory DH, although I did go up a size this year. Maxxis and Intense appear to be about twice the price, will I see a significant benefit?

Although you may think of this as sales pitch, i would honestly say that you would without a doubt feel a difference, tiogas are adiquate tyres for DH and do there job well although its not until you ride a good quality 2.5" high roller/gazzolodi on a DH track where mistakes really shake you up due to the danger involved that there perfomance and price are appreciated.

Haha, have to disagree on the tiogas. I ran them for a few years (kevlar and steel and various sizes) including racing the NAMBS and for the price they are very good tyres.
Anyway, to the point. I am happy with maxxis (minion and wetscream) so i for one cant see the point in changing for fashion;)

i have to agree with mr fish on tioga's. my factory dh's were ok for street/bone dry hardpack, but if there was so much a bit of drizzle or maybe just a humidity rise (a slight exageration but u get the idea) they would start to slide allover the place. wetscreams for wet and gazza's for dry/damp. and yes, much blacker. (especially if you rub "backtoblack" car polish into the sidewalls lol)
