Machynlleth or Coed Y Brenin ?

Summer hols are booked and I have found (surprise surprise ;) ) that we are just 17 miles from both the above. So which would you recommend and why?

And suggestions as to what can I do with the rest of the family for a day / half day nearby would also be welcome!

Spend a day at both, and get your family to take turns pushing your bike up for you/taking care of the bbq/making sure the beer is cold etc etc
