Question 4: What are your opinions on the commercialisation of the sport? Do you believe that it is becoming too commercialised or are you happy with it?

Question 5: Have you travelled to freeride in the last year? How far did you travel and via what method (car, train etc)?

Question 1: How long have you been mountain biking?
About 2years

Question 2: How long have you been freeriding?
About 1 1/2 years
Question 3: Do you believe that a certain type of person freerides or is it something that all sorts of people enjoy?
I think any one can have whether they are chav mosher etc. they just have to be gutsey

Question 4: What are your opinions on the commercialisation of the sport? Do you believe that it is becoming too commercialised or are you happy with it?
I thint it is good for it to be out there in the world. It isn't that popular and it should get more popular because it is a very enjoyable sport

Question 5: Have you travelled to freeride in the last year? How far did you travel and via what method (car, train etc)?
I traveled all over england and whaes border so far and fort William scotland and it has always been by car

Question 6: What is your opinion on competitions for freeriding? Do you believe that the slopestlye events, such as Crankworx involving ramps, tables etc are the way forward or do you believe that events such as red bull rampage, concentrating on hucking, are the way forward?
I like all freeride. I think the big hucks look impressive but the wood work is very gutsey too i think the natural stuff is the way forward though because narmally you can go as big as you want where as man made wood stuff you normally have a designated landing area e.g. woodstock- wooden take off to wooden landing

Question 7: Has freeriding changed as a result of new technology, or do you believe it is the other way round?
I think that the technology has changed because people just keep going bigger and bigger all the time and need the better technology so manufacturers are building stronger bikes all the time and also making things to survey the perfarmance of suspention so that they can make changes.

Question 8: How much have you spent in the past year on mountain bike hardware?
I have lost track. Over £1000 i think, not too sure though!

The following questions do not need to be answered but It would be helpful if you could.

Question 1: How long have you been mountain biking?
16 years

Question 2: How long have you been freeriding?
erm umm, depends how you define freeriding. Riding where i want, be it on a track or not, usually with the aid of gravity, 16 years. North shore, just over 1.

Question 3: Do you believe that a certain type of person freerides or is it something that all sorts of people enjoy?
Again it depends on the definition of freeride. If youre talking utah type hucks, then i think it is only a very few, who possibly may just have either something extra in there brain or something missing :)
Other than that, any person who enjoys an adrenalin kick.

Question 4: What are your opinions on the commercialisation of the sport? Do you believe that it is becoming too commercialised or are you happy with it?
What sport? For "freeride" and for DH i think it is important, both sports need money behind them in order to progress and grow. The sad thing is that as the sports progress they become "trendy" which opens the doors to a lot of posers with more money than sense, which ultimately jepordises the sport too.

Question 5: Have you travelled to freeride in the last year? How far did you travel and via what method (car, train etc)?
Define freeride;)
I have travelled to various places in the uk to ride my bike on natural and man-made terrain assisted by gravity. :) by car/van

Question 6: What is your opinion on competitions for freeriding? Do you believe that the slopestlye events, such as Crankworx involving ramps, tables etc are the way forward or do you believe that events such as red bull rampage, concentrating on hucking, are the way forward?
Their is definately a need for both. Its all "freeriding", i personally prefer the natural stuff like redbull etc but there is a commercial need for things like crankworx, it helps put the sport in the limelight so to speak. I dont really think there is much diference between the two. A lot of riders where pulling big stunts in utah, similar to at crankworx. As crankworx and similar competitions are only temporary, manmade structures, they can be easily tweaked/changed/repositioned etc to optimise the run. This aspires more confidence and bigger tricks although, maybe slightly less skill than a natural location.

Question 7: Has freeriding changed as a result of new technology, or do you believe it is the other way round?
Both have pushed each other. Flashback 6 or 7 years "six inch travel triple clamps..... wow" These days theres 7" single crown forks.... Companies are now producing stronger frames and componants, listening much more to rider feedback. These developments (mainly in suspension technology) have enabled riders to "go bigger" 30ft drops are "common" these days, something only dreamed of not so long ago. Of course for the wheels to keep turning there has to be a fairly large consumer base.... getting back to the commercial side again.

Question 8: How much have you spent in the past year on mountain bike hardware?
£$£$£

Question 1: How long have you been mountain biking?
5 years
Question 2: How long have you been freeriding?
7months
Question 3: Do you believe that a certain type of person freerides or is it something that all sorts of people enjoy?
See people who freeride, you have to have some balls about you but anyone with a desent bike can have a go!!
Question 4: What are your opinions on the commercialisation of the sport? Do you believe that it is becoming too commercialised or are you happy with it?
I am happy with it but i wouldn't want it to get anymore commercialised
Question 5: Have you travelled to freeride in the last year? How far did you travel and via what method (car, train etc)?
20miles by car
Question 6: What is your opinion on competitions for freeriding? Do you believe that the slopestlye events, such as Crankworx involving ramps, tables etc are the way forward or do you believe that events such as red bull rampage, concentrating on hucking, are the way forward?
I think that slopestlye events are fun to watch and the same with red bull events, so they are the way forward but i wouldnt want it to get too competive
Question 7: Has freeriding changed as a result of new technology, or do you believe it is the other way round?
not sure to be honest but i think technology has helped
Question 8: How much have you spent in the past year on mountain bike hardware?
£1000

Question 1: How long have you been mountain biking?
16 months
Question 2: How long have you been freeriding?
7 months
Question 3: Do you believe that a certain type of person freerides or is it something that all sorts of people enjoy?
a bit of an adrenalin junky, or someone who is dedicated to the sport
Question 4: What are your opinions on the commercialisation of the sport? Do you believe that it is becoming too commercialised or are you happy with it?
mountain biking needs to be recognised as more of a credible sport that anyone can do whatever there standard skill and bike etc so commercilisation is good for the time being, however there will become a point in the future when commercilisation can't do anything more for the sport and will have to be cut back.
Question 5: Have you travelled to freeride in the last year? How far did you travel and via what method (car, train etc)?
20 miles car
Question 6: What is your opinion on competitions for freeriding? Do you believe that the slopestlye events, such as Crankworx involving ramps, tables etc are the way forward or do you believe that events such as red bull rampage, concentrating on hucking, are the way forward?
Both are great competitions but i would like to something more a mix of the 2 using the natural terrain of the red bull rampage but using the tricks based side of the Cranworx competitions
Question 7: Has freeriding changed as a result of new technology, or do you believe it is the other way round?
All this new suspension technology has pushed the sport on along a massive way, giving the rider the ability to go bigger and crazier
Question 8: How much have you spent in the past year on mountain bike hardware?
Probably over £1000

Questionnaire:

Question 1: How long have you been mountain biking? 7 years

Question 2: How long have you been freeriding? 3 years

Question 3: Do you believe that a certain type of person freerides or is it something that all sorts of people enjoy? something everyone can enjoy, it doesnt matter how big/fast you go.

Question 4: What are your opinions on the commercialisation of the sport? Do you believe that it is becoming too commercialised or are you happy with it? the more the merrier

Question 5: Have you travelled to freeride in the last year? How far did you travel and via what method (car, train etc)? not in the last year no.

Question 6: What is your opinion on competitions for freeriding? Do you believe that the slopestlye events, such as Crankworx involving ramps, tables etc are the way forward or do you believe that events such as red bull rampage, concentrating on hucking, are the way forward? slopestyle is the way forward, as it integrates more skills into one event meaning that the best all rounder will come out ontop.

Question 7: Has freeriding changed as a result of new technology, or do you believe it is the other way round? the technology is chasing the freeriders, afterall, there wouldnt be any need for bikes with 11" of travel if people werent going to be hucking 40'+.

Question 8: How much have you spent in the past year on mountain bike hardware? in the last year, about £300

The following questions do not need to be answered but It would be helpful if you could.

Question 1: How long have you been mountain biking?
2-3 years ?
Question 2: How long have you been freeriding?
Id say i started off freeriding, though it was more "eek a 1 ft drop"

Question 3: Do you believe that a certain type of person freerides or is it something that all sorts of people enjoy? Hmm no not really, its none specific, only requirement is you must be an adrenalin junkie

Question 4: What are your opinions on the commercialisation of the sport? Do you believe that it is becoming too commercialised or are you happy with it?
I dont think its too comercialised, its still not exactly a huge sport.

Question 5: Have you travelled to freeride in the last year? How far did you travel and via what method (car, train etc)?
Caresws and Fortwilliam, car and train

Question 6: What is your opinion on competitions for freeriding? Do you believe that the slopestlye events, such as Crankworx involving ramps, tables etc are the way forward or do you believe that events such as red bull rampage, concentrating on hucking, are the way forward?

I love the crankworx slopestylethings, they just look awsome, where as hucking ? meh it aint so great really.

Question 7: Has freeriding changed as a result of new technology, or do you believe it is the other way round?
I think it has changed to a certain degree, but peoples attitudes progress faster than technoloogy, people are fearless now, though being able to trust in your equiptment helps.

Question 8: How much have you spent in the past year on mountain bike hardware?
Hmm err hmm cant think, couple hundred i tihnk, though im just about to purchase some new forks for my shred........so that could rise sharply !!!

Questionnaire:

Question 1: How long have you been mountain biking?

Pure mountainbiking, the last 3-1/2 years

Question 2: How long have you been freeriding?

The last 3 -1/2 years, that's why I started again

Question 3: Do you believe that a certain type of person freerides or is it something that all sorts of people enjoy?

Depends on what level of freeriding is involved. Upto a certain point joe public can enjoy the adrenaline rush of the small hucks and low level type Northshore that is usually associated with the term freeride, but after that it becomes more of a sport and as such requires more than just balls....you need skill, physical fitness and outright determination.

Question 4: What are your opinions on the commercialisation of the sport? Do you believe that it is becoming too commercialised or are you happy with it?

It seems to be the natural progression these days, but I wouldn't class it as mass commercialisation as it's not something used to promote say a certain fizzy drink on the Tv to a wide audience. Yes you have the RedBull events, but they have always supported minority sports, not as a vehicle to solely promote their brand outright. For example they sponsored our Thai Boxing Squad for years, even before the drink came to these shores and at not 1 point will you have seen an ad with Thai boxers on it, even though there was a massive rise in popularity of the extreme contact sports at the time.

Question 5: Have you travelled to freeride in the last year? How far did you travel and via what method (car, train etc)?

I always travel by car and average 6k a year.....I travel a 60 mile round trip every week to my local spot !

Question 6: What is your opinion on competitions for freeriding? Do you believe that the slopestlye events, such as Crankworx involving ramps, tables etc are the way forward or do you believe that events such as red bull rampage, concentrating on hucking, are the way forward?

Slopestyle events are a link / bridge whatever you want to call it that allow the integration of other "discipline" riders into one event whilst pushing the freeride name forward and stoping too much fragmentation of the sport. RedBull is RedBull and has its place as much as anything else

Question 7: Has freeriding changed as a result of new technology, or do you believe it is the other way round?

There is an element of it working both ways but I believe development is driven by demand as is the case with most businesses.

Question 8: How much have you spent in the past year on mountain bike hardware?

I tend to wheel and deal rather than spend.

The following questions do not need to be answered but It would be helpful if you could.
