Me and my dad are thinking of entering this race up at hamsterley on 18/19th november. Very enjoyable track and i'm pretty sure everyone else will agree who have been there! Anyone else up for it???

I don't like it as its where i broke my AC joint and dislocated my colar bone;)

Seriously though, it is a good course, only done 1 of the lower sections (old NPS) but the top half is fun with the tabletop. It'll be pretty muddy and slippery on the DH course. Don't know if i'll be able to get the time off work but its tempting as i know a few of the Hamsterly crew.

Cheers for all the luck guys! Was a great weekend, loved it! The track was slimey but nice and grippy and had some parts that had you really thinking about the right line(i never got it). Did a good few runs on saturday getting used to the track and trying to find those all so vital seconds!

Today was great, got to the woods nice n early and i had 2 practice runs, my dad had one to preserve himself!!!!!! I finally got through the full track clean taking the lines i chose on my second practice which i was very happy about!

Onto the 1st timed run, top section i ended up going through a rock garden very scetchy with no feat on the pedals which gave a horrible dose of ball ache! and then into the middle section i hit a rock to jump some roots, hit the last root and wiped out, got right back on and was fine............... untill the switchbacks, last right hander, protruding rock+pedal= roll and roll and erm roll, kept hold of my bike though and ot back on and clocked a time of 2:49

2nd run was all round great!!! Hit most of the lines i had chosen nicely and somehow found energy to pedal most of the top section and into the switchbacks at the bottom. t was a completely clean run and i managed to cut off 30 seconds!!! so my over all time was 2:19 which was only 25ish seconds behind 1st place, one of my best results yet, although i still ended up in 12th!

Oh yer, and sorry fish, i kicked my dads ass ;)_

Kenny B
29-01-07, 18:36
Yeah Fish, the bike is working well - but I'm crap! Top section great, I got loads of air on the big table-top. I just couldn't get the hang of the middle bit they call the Bus Stop. I fell off both sides, went over the handlebars, slid sideways into a tree with my head, and come to several embarrasing stops. This one short section spoilt the whole track for me. I loved the super - steep Swithbacks at the bottom (couldn't do them 12 months ago so that's progress) and even the double at the bottom. I did bottle the last big drop though. I will definitely do that next time we have a no-pressure trip up there, I don't think it's as big as Fork Top.
I've got serious fitness and sports- Psychology issues to address before I race again. I absolutely love the sport but I'm getting seriously p****d off with the humiliation of defeat.
It was ace to watch Dan Atherton ride - By the way, he messed up on the Bus Stop too!!!!!

i can see that we need to up the ante on the riding and on the motivational chats :D bloody good effort tho,the both of ya :D
what was the time difference between you both?

Baker
30-01-07, 19:48
Ahem, i dnt think he wants that to be let out!!!!! :D, 3:36(kenny b)-2:19 (me)= 1:47!!!!!! wehey! When the results came up i was also happy to see i had managed to get in the top 100 times, came 92nd ;) out of about 150

tommyoaks
30-01-07, 20:21
well done, i rode at hemsterly last summer and it was hard enough then nevermind in winter. was there any good 4x action to be seen? who was the ultimate champion, Dan Atherton?

Baker
31-01-07, 14:04
Yeah i think it was dan atherton. There wasn't any 4X on this weekend, they run the different races on alternate weekends. A few people had a bit of a play around on the track though once the uplifts had finished!

Baker
31-01-07, 14:28
ROUND 3 LOOKS LIKE IT IS 24-25 MARCH, I hope to be doing it and if my dad aint he can be my mechanic!!!! :D:D:D:D

Danger Dean
31-01-07, 22:42
I saw you Baker, looking good mate!

If anyone has room for me and my bike let me know, i fancy doing this race as Pearce rd 3's booked up

Baker
01-02-07, 23:02
Could try get a bunch of the members going that have had to miss out on the 3rd round of pearce cycles, maybe?

Hatchleader
02-02-07, 20:27
count me in if theres room!! that drop looks like it might be a bit sketchy on a HT tho!! lol!

Baker
02-02-07, 21:51
Yeer the drop is pretty sketchy any how i think, it needs a slight whip into it too to get a good landing!

Kenny B
09-02-07, 17:37
I know it's easy to say this when I haven't actually done it myself, but I don't reckon the last big drop will be a problem for Full sus OR HT. I will DEFINITELY do it next time - I was close to having a go but had my confidence ripped out of me by my experience on the bus stop. The big drop is one of those ( a bit like Woodstock) where your landing slope is bang in line with your natural trajectory, there's hardly any noise when riders land.
22 minutes til I can have a beer.

Baker
09-02-07, 22:14
Yeer, definately off for a go on it on my next race! MARCH :D well looking forward to it already! I aint scared/nervous any more cos i have raced hamsterley now! Should be awesome! I also want to get a top 10 time this time too, i was only about 5 seconds off it last time!!!

Hamsterly round 3 Dates are up too now and entry forms! Bit later than i was told it would be!

tommyoaks
27-02-07, 21:21
hi james ive read all the posts in this thread.

I checked out the hamsterly website and found the entery form, there is a place to write a BC licence number. do you have to have one to enter? where can you get one? from thomas

Baker
27-02-07, 21:54
Arite mate, no you dont need one to enter, it is just there for if you do have one, it qualifies you for BC points and thats about it i think, maybe extra insurance but the race has enough anyway!

Hope that helps
James

Danger Dean
27-02-07, 22:54
Hey Baker, you and your dad racing round 3? I should (touches wood) be up for this one so i'll probably hook up with you and Ken during practice etc.

Anyone else going?

Baker
28-02-07, 14:58
I think we should be, or at least just me! Rick Brown is also looking to just go for the uplift day on the Saturday too! I am really trying to get my dad to let me do it ;) He aint working so i should think in the end with my mum pestering him to take her to my nanas in Hartlepool i oughta win :D

Also sounds like Tommy Oaks is looking to go........ is this right?

Kenny B
28-02-07, 18:12
I'm hoping to race. James definitely is and his mum needs a "Hartlepool Bingo Fix." Any whimpy confidence problems on my part should be sorted by going up a couple of weeks before hand and giving it some.

Baker
28-02-07, 19:41
I have found out briefly what the track is so we should be able to work it out ;) :D

tommyoaks
28-02-07, 20:25
ha ha thats right james. I have sent my application form off today. im doing the practice on saturday aswell if im accepted. its my first race but i rode hamsterly last summer and liked all the trackes. I Think il be sleeping in tent city over night. Is ther anywhere to camp?

Baker
28-02-07, 20:26
"over the t,top halfway through the rock garden, left down the rooty/rock garden across the road into the triple black run really tech rock garden into a steep rooty descent then it brings you out at the bottom switchbacks!!! a misters course expect some carnage! lol"

A brief insite to what track it will be! Sounds like they are running the Tripple Black Diamond........... should be awesome, lots of big drops on a fast DH race course, cant beat it!

Danger Dean
28-02-07, 20:53
Cool, i'll see you there then. Get a few of us together for practice then and we'll get it sorted;)

You up on the 10th for uplifts James/Ken?

Baker
28-02-07, 21:16
Yeer cool!
Yep we will be there on the 10th, probably sort out my deamons on the track we raced last time-hit the perfect lines and then session the next race track for the rest of the day! Should be awesome!

This is an awesome place to do your first race, it is so layed back and great fun!

As for camping i'm not sure, give Craig Hunter a ring, he should be able to sort you out his number is - 07795 514 251 or 01915 654 251

Its definitely gonna be a good weekend!

Baker
28-02-07, 21:29
You could always go for the more expensive yet much more warm and comfortable option of B&B

£30 per person per night.

Two sharing - £25 per person per night.

Three sharing - £20 per person per night.

been on hamsterley website and tried to access the confirmation list for round three but can't get it up. anyone else managed it?

Baker
07-03-07, 13:45
Not managed yet, tried a good few times now but it aint worked! If you sent your entry off a few days ago at least you oughta be in! the probably just haven't got round to sorting tht bit of the page out yet!

Kenny B
09-03-07, 16:39
Got a new plan! stuff trying to go fast. Next race, I'm just gonna try to stay on my bike and look good. Then I might get as many pictures and videos taken of me as James did last time. I might even wash my shirt first. Ha!

Baker
09-03-07, 22:07
Could be an idea! N washing your shirt is a great idea, i can smell it in my room when it is outside in the garage!!!

Rick Brown
10-03-07, 19:48
OH thats what that smell is down are part of the town I thought it was coming from the land fill site down wind of us;)

Baker
11-03-07, 14:17
haha, very likely rick!

The new plan now is that i/we have a team mechanic by the name of Kenny B wo has chosen not to race and he is going to bring my mum on the sunday the see the team and scare the hell out of her!

Will be a great although hard work weekend, the track is VERY technical and VERY scetchy, not too keen on it although if i want to race i need to put up with it, and it includes the double and switchbacks at the bottom so it willall be good!

Danger Dean
16-03-07, 21:02
Confirmation list is up guys:)

Baker
17-03-07, 21:22
sweet, finally!!!!

Danger Dean
21-03-07, 22:07
Ok, bit of a problem. My mate who i was going up with has had to pull out with work commitments, this leaves me with no way to get to Hamsterley and back again:(

Can anyone help a fella out?

Baker
22-03-07, 18:17
sorry dude, we are off up to my nanas for the weekend and racing in between!

Hope it all works out for you

tommyoaks
22-03-07, 18:48
hi dean, were you planning on doing the practice on saturday as well?

Danger Dean
22-03-07, 22:14
yeah, i was Tom. I don't mind camping or B+B and i'll obviously put money towards petrol etc

tommyoaks
23-03-07, 20:15
ok i can give help out with lifts.

not sure what to do about accomodation though. I was planning on taking a tent as its only one night. desend hamsterly advertises a BnB close by at £25 each per night, i could phone up and see if its full? where do you live? is there any way you could get close to Scunthorpe, the M180, Rasen, or gainsborough?

If you post your phone number we can arrange it all.

Danger Dean
23-03-07, 21:22

Baker
26-03-07, 19:38
ah no, really really really gutted!!!! Just goin to contact craig n see if i can sort out the refund or an uplift for the whole weekend instead!

tommyoaks
26-03-07, 19:49
is this true? why? im not a member of desend world. desend hamsterley dosen't list anything about it being canciled

let us know what they have to say baker

Baker
26-03-07, 19:50
Right, Craig is still doing uplifts over the weekend about 15 per day(he said 30 over the weekend), these will be available to those who have already entered but those who have entered and are traveling a distance will get privelage........ if you understand me :D! So hope you two are still up for that, i am and i am still definitely goin!

Baker
29-03-07, 09:38
So are you two coming up on the saturday and sunday or are you getting a refund?

Baker
29-03-07, 09:44
Doesn't matter, just got a text from dean, will see you both up there on the saturday!

tommyoaks
29-03-07, 17:58
yeah were going on saturday only, not as inviting to camp now that the race is cancelled. we should get there for 10:30ish. hope its not to wet.

Baker
29-03-07, 21:55
ok, will look out for you, will try to get there for about 9:30-10ish i think, depends how well i get up on the mornin :D I should think it will be ok, and it insnt one of those tracks which is impossible to ride/have fun in the wet, the tracks are well made and roll quite fast in the wet, i first cleared the road in the wet!!! Stick to the rocky tracks if it is a bit wet!!! Im armed with my wet screams any how :D:D:D

Baker
01-04-07, 20:49
Awesome weekend!!! Put my wetscreams on for saturday but got there and it was nearly perfect, rocks held in place nicely, jumps running fast and drying out all day!!! Met up with dean and tom so it was a good fun day, ridin with someone i know! Had 1 1/2 crashes, first one was pretty bad, going through a rock garden brakeless hitting a slick root/treestump and flying head first into a hard mound of dirt against a tree then to make things worst my bike followed through and hit me on the back of the head!!! Came out free of injuries except for a dead leg, which is still dead :D and the second i got confused of which line to take and hit a tree with my left fist and grazed it up a bit, migth have to look into a set of carbon knuckle gloves!

Sunday got to the car park and changed to summer...... yes SUMMER tyres!!!! rode down the track and the gripped a treat, got to the bottom of the track and found no other then dust on my frame!!! Cleared all of the big jumps, inc. the 30ft table, road gap, double at the bottom and also did all of the drops except the last one!

So to sum it up, the weekend was sweeeeet!!!

Baker
01-04-07, 21:02
Oh yer, i also did about 25 runs! 21 uplifts and was sessioning the top and middle! Think i managed to get most of them around the 1:50 mark too :D and nailed the line through the trees in the bus stop which me and my dad had some problems with in round 2

Danger Dean
02-04-07, 20:06
yeah, saturday was good. Glad the weather was ok and that the track dried out, although the wind made the table top a little dodgy at times.

Glad to hear you were ok after that crash James, looked bad from where i was! I was on one too, chasing you down, was gonna pull off a cheeky overtaking maneuver;)

Ken, you'll have to let us know what your photos came out like, would be good to have a look at some.

Baker
02-04-07, 20:41
The pics....... are sweet!!!!! Will try get them onto a disk or get some more prints of the best ones for you, got about 10 pics of tom and 7 pics of dean, most of them are pretty good quality!!! I'll let you know as soon as i get them available to send to both of you!
