If I were you I would go and see the course first and then decide whether you want to put £25 down to enter or not .
I don't slag other peoples riding spots off and the guys there have worked hard but at the moment things look a little unfinished/lacking build quality and lack some interest in terms of course design. The guys acknowledge this fact and appreciate all comments they receive and as such there is a dig day around the end of July for people to help out and put (constructive) ideas forward.

It looks ok...but Hamsterley is only a bit further and is likely going to be way better - anyone seen the new "Black Magic" course at Hamsterley? F**king gnarly looking it's rated "Triple Black Diamond"

So how did you guys get on? Who went in the end?

mr fish
06-08-06, 20:43
mmm it was a day of mixed emotions ranging from boredom waiting for the uplift (mini buses held 32 peeps tractor and trailer held 20 bikes :? ) big grins on the mmmm flowing but not too challenging track to a near heart attack pushing up in all my gear(never again) because the lifts were so slow, to elation at doing a pretty good time first run, then to shear 'kin frustration at doing a blinding 2nd run to be told "i don't reckon we got your time mate, i have to see later"
the guy in question came and told me as we were leaving that he'd found my time which was a couple of secs faster but i'd have to wait a few days while they sorted out the chaos,i think/hope its top 20
on the whole it was a good day out and caught up with old mates etc

Ben
06-08-06, 21:01
a lot of chaos thats for sure, good day riding i think, trying something new 'n' all. Yes very annoyed to have pedalled my legs off in my second run as its was after all the last and most inportant, only to find at the bottom that my time hadn't registered   (contain yourself... calm down) and i had to go up and do a whole run again super knakered with legs of lead :grml: what couldnt have been my first podium held up for the time being my final run of 1.35 put me 3secs from the lead and the win in accordance to previous times

never mind :bang:

oooooh and the careful guy in the tractor and his stacking of bikes lead to a lot of unhappy faces and broken bikes

True Saxon
07-08-06, 07:43
so what was the course like? was it better than the pics make it look?

mr fish
07-08-06, 07:46
it was, but it was a fun track with plenty of flow similar to ttt but longer and with more gradient etc nothing really scary ;)

True Saxon

Well

We arrived quite early, only took 1hour 30mins from lincoln on quiet sunday morning roads. The first problem was sign posting, the only sign i saw was an A4 card cable tied round a post in the wrong direction, still never mind, we found it easy enough. On arriving we parked in the 'extra' car park just 20yards from the uplift :D as opposed to most other people who had a woodland walk/ride from the car park, we walked the track first, first impressions seemed impressive, well built berms good sized steep shutes, linked together with very small jumps/gaps often over shot. The uplift arrived in the form of two 16 people mini busses later followed by a single tractor and trailer, this is where the carnage began. On the first half a dozen or so uplifts the tractor driver put the bikes in himself, (obviously never done this before) and (unusual for uplifts) people were dreading there bike being the last and his securing method wasnt the best, arriving at the top with bikes hanging off the back by the rotors and mech, and in one case the wheel which lead to snapped spokes and bent rotor. After the first couple of lifts people were finding walking up easier, faster and better for their bikes, although this wasnt for everyone :p ;) . The course was fast and pedally and quite flowing until the bottom section which had obviously only just been built and was soft and slow.

Come the race runs the timing equipment wasnt best  the first 6 or so riders getting to the bottom realising they had no time eventually the timing people realised this was because of the lack of petrol in the generator  , 1 hour had passed and 6 people had gone down and traffic was forming at the top. This was the outlook for the rest of the day, many got to the bottom only to be told they had no time, i for one was fuming when my second run imho my best wasnt timed along with others, i decided to go up and try again but was way too knakered to make an impact, the track was very draining  Still hats off to the orgonisers for there first race, lots to be improved up on but a good days riding i think

Wykem DH race in september hmmmmmm

Hi
it was nice to see Ben and Mr Fish again at the Silton race, I will definately been coming up to Rasen at the end of the month. Well done on taking that second off your original time Ben. I managed a 1.32.17 on my 2nd/3rd run which took the win. Well chuffed.
Cheers Tom
