I can only remember one tiny rock garden at Caersws - it was very easy and not much like the Wharncliffe ones!

Best courses at Wharners for rocks are Peaty's and Red Dot. The main rock garden on Peaty's is still the gnarliest rocks I've ridden, along with the big one on the lower half of the main Hamsterley course where you have to jump into the rocks.

Main problem at Caersws is the steep rutted shutes! The NPS track is very very steep indeed.

Ooh, sorry I just read that this race is on a new 2006 track....didn't see that one so can't comment.

pebble gardens would be more apropriateto the 2 small rock gardens on the old midlands course at caersws, blink and you miss em, and there fairly smooth (atleast i think there was 2)
Peatys at wharncliffe is where you want to be practicing riding rocks, or Guisecliife nr Glasshouses, gnarliest rocks i ever riden there. Not for the faint hearted;)
The secret with rocks is to go as fast as you dare. basically the faster you go, the easier they are.

I could use a trip to sheff soon, not been in ages.

If i've got the day off i might be up for a bit of Wharncliffe with you, i was there on sat and it was bone dry but real dusty in the trees making for some pretty fast 2 wheel drifts:)

Peatys is good, i like fast track though, some rocks at the top, single track in the middle and jumps/drops at the end

Baker

So might be a good turn out! Is everyone good with the date? I think the steep track that starts in a rock garden with trees in the middle>> i am sure fish knows the ones :D and finishes with really steep rutty loose bit would be good practice!

Ben
03-07-06, 20:08
hmmmm wharncliffe sounds a good idea, shall be up for it....

dave_mawe
03-07-06, 20:09
Hmmmm, i'd be good with the date but can't get there, parent's are having a piss up that weekend so they can't take:(

04-07-06, 00:16
We're going to be in Morzine, otherwise would gladly hook up with you guys...maybe another time.

Riding Peaty's without putting a foot down (or crashing!) at all is quite a good challenge.

The bottom rock garden on the Nemba is quite good as well.

08-07-06, 16:23
turns out there having a piss up the weekend of the Caersws race. So i can get a lift. which days anyone going? sat or sun?

Baker

I think the sunday would be best cos some people work saturdays? This is usually our day to go ridin too lol... saturday mum needs more attention than bike :D

Danger Dean
08-07-06, 21:37
Aaaah, ain't that cute;)

Well, i can only get on saturday as i have to be in work on sunday...annoyingly, so i'll have to meet up with everyone some other time

Baker
08-07-06, 21:43
Well my mum now says saturday would be better :D:D! Don't know how this is workin with everyone else!

Danger Dean
08-07-06, 21:45

I'll be going Sat no matter what, as my mate lives about 5 mins away and knows all the best bits:D

Baker
08-07-06, 21:52

Danger Dean
08-07-06, 21:56

Baker
08-07-06, 22:00
Not too sure on that part yet lol! Let you know when we do! Probs be a bit later than that though!

Danger Dean
08-07-06, 22:03

Baker
08-07-06, 22:10

Danger Dean
08-07-06, 22:20

Baker
08-07-06, 22:24
Great!

Ben
08-07-06, 22:52

Danger Dean
08-07-06, 23:09

dave_mawe
09-07-06, 11:25
Thats the best day for me i think, i'll get my mum to break the news to my dad that his taking us to sheffield. What xc routes are there, he could always take his bike to keep himself amused.

Baker
09-07-06, 17:58
There is a massive route all over the place lol! A nice wide track that goes past the top and then loops round kinda to the bottoms of the DHers! 15th it is then!

dave_mawe
09-07-06, 18:26
maybe not for me i don't think i'll have a rideable bike

Ben
10-07-06, 17:51
not looking likely for me i'm affraid as i have no means of transport, will see what i can do

Fwogddy
10-07-06, 18:36
ben how far away is it? if its not far i might get my dad to give me a lift, you could hitch a lift aswell ben?

Ben
10-07-06, 20:49
t'other side of sheffield, i was considering the train, but weather permitting they may be reluctant to let us back on with dirty bikes, otherwise a lift would be greatly appreciated, just need to get a rear wheel sorted, built it but aint got use of a dishing tool and the wheel jig is locked up in rasen bikes so it looks like i'll have to take it into (gulp) cycle sport

mr fish
10-07-06, 20:52
it looks like i'll have to take it into (gulp) cycle sport

WTF

Fwogddy
10-07-06, 20:53
lol, ill ask my dad about it youl probabaly have to crash at mine on saturday night though so we can get an early night in, he should say yes if my deputy head calms down about what happend last thursday

Ben
10-07-06, 21:13
the last wheel i had done at cycle sport had to be rebuilt 3 times (i think you took it in for me one time, never found out what it was although it was built wrong) i dont think they like me going in there much, it always ends in disaster.

dave_mawe
10-07-06, 21:38
bring it into halfords in scunny, i'll wave and say hello. wont get you wheels nice and trued though. I need you to replace a few spokes n true my rear wheel up aswell please ben

Danger Dean
10-07-06, 21:42
If you wanted to go by train then meet me at the station at 7am. Don't worry about being dirty, i use the trains all year round and in all conditions;)

Fwogddy
10-07-06, 21:44
that would make my dad happyer! what time do we get back (if theres enought room for me and ben)

mr fish
10-07-06, 21:56

can't you use your frame to gauge the dish? ;)

Danger Dean
10-07-06, 22:40
Well i'm meeting my mate at chapeltown station then driving to wharners but there wouldn't be enough room in his car for 4 bikes and riders. Its not far to ride from Chapeltown station to Wharncliffe and Greno woods though

Fwogddy
11-07-06, 09:08
so we going on saturday or sunday? and dean ill probabaly take you up on the train, how much is it?

Will
11-07-06, 10:38

Baker
11-07-06, 17:06
Saturday, then! Looking forward now! You not coming fish?

Ben
11-07-06, 17:12
can't you use your frame to gauge the dish? ;)

looks like i may have to do that although it wont be the most accurate or easier ways of doing it as i cant get to lincoln anyway this week, i dont think i'll be off to wharncliffe this weekend

dave_mawe
11-07-06, 18:03
cos i've bin working my arse of just to do jobs never mind true my own wheel. plus i'd rather trust ben with my wheel than sean. gonna get some spokes and a cable from them tomorow though, also some dvd reduced to 49p

Danger Dean
11-07-06, 18:08
so we going on saturday or sunday? and dean ill probabaly take you up on the train, how much is it?

I believe that its about £12, and the train leaves at 7:05 on saturday, so i'll meet you at the station at 7.

I'll have to have a word with my mate to see if there is enough room in his car for a 3rd bike and rider though

Fwogddy
11-07-06, 19:46

Fwogddy
14-07-06, 19:20
so dean, heard you had a little trouble wiht your wheel? the lad that works in cyclesport's on my music class and he was bragging about your bike being in there lol, whatcha do? he said it was quite a job

Danger Dean
14-07-06, 19:51
Yeah, came to ride my bike, checked the rear wheel and every single spoke was loose! Had to just tighten the nipples up to get it to a bike shop and have it sorted properly.

Was pretty annoyed as the wheels are suppost to be handbuilt by Rocky Mountain as they don't trust anyone else to build wheels strong enough:s I will be having words with the dealer when i get to them

What'd he say then? Bet he doesn't see many RMX's in cyclesport!

Danger Dean
14-07-06, 19:54
Edit due to weird double post

Baker
14-07-06, 21:10

Today was totally awesome! The speeds were unbelievable and you were choking on the dust of whoever was infront of you! The tracks, even the most tech, were so so so fast! Few people stacked it, me very nearly, dean, fwoddgy, Got to go again! Sorry ben i wasn't on here yesterday! There was no room in the car any hoo! Sorry man!

Fwogddy
15-07-06, 22:06
baker, up for it in the summer hols? i wanna another go at peaty's! its, erm, intimidating!

how dya know about deans stack? it was quite impressive! greno was awesome, you shudda come! nice fast single track with some pretty decent jumps! had a guy on an orange who was being really cocky and making fun of me and dean (who were getting pretty flekking good air off this 2 foot kicker, and clearing the landing by about 3 feet everytime), and when he did it he didnt even clear the landing! which was less then a foot asay HAHAHA, oh and that guy on that blue V10, nice bloke, but i think hes got the whole brakeing and pedaling thing the wrong way round. it was a pretty good day though!

Baker
15-07-06, 22:15
Awesome! Deans stack on death vally! He kinda went over the bars where you i think walked? I dunno...?Stuck to the black dimond track and the jump area! There was one jump i was goin so big on, i was scarin even my dad!!!!!!!!!!! Now that is something!

Danger Dean
15-07-06, 22:15
Ha Ha, that video clip makes me chuckle everytime i see it;)

I had 2 stacks today, came off at the bottom of the massive rock garden on Peatys, don't know what happened but ended up flying over the bars!

When i get those pics and movies off Rob i'll post some links up

Fwogddy

I didn't half see the diference on the downhill runs and 'Death Vally'<< 1st stack for dean if you don't know the acctual name of the track! My feet were all over then in i was, felt well good!

20-07-06, 16:48
dude, how dya do that? was that on tuesday?

Danger Dean
20-07-06, 18:08
Yeah, at Hamsterley and on only my first run of the bottom section! Came to a drop off and thought it was small so just rolled off it... turns out it was a bit bigger than expected, bike summersaulted forward and i landed on a rock with my shoulder. Got an impressive gravelrash all up my arm too:)

What i didn't tell the doctors/work was that i actually carried on riding for another 5 or so hours including clearing the big tabletop:devil:

Fwogddy
20-07-06, 18:38
lol, nice one ;)

how long until youl be riding again dean?

oh and i seem to have broken / really badly brused a couple of toes mis-landing a front flip off a trampoline, i mite not be riding for a while lol

Danger Dean
20-07-06, 18:45
I'm off work for 2 weeks but i've got to see a specialist next week so i'll have a better idea about riding when i've seen him/her. Don't think it'll be too long though, maybe a bit longer until i start doing big drops and jumps

Baker
20-07-06, 19:04
Ouch nasty! Hope you get ridin again soon!
