According to my calender the 4th is a Monday, not a Sunday  am i right? So if that is right would it be, Un-official practice on Sunday and uplift and race Monday. Im confused!

True Saxon

ha.. even more confusing is that the entry form says 03/09/05

at a guess i would say its on the 3rd.. but hopefully this will be confirmed.

what about a weekend trip then? riding wykham and dalby on the saturday and racing on the sunday.

Ben

possibly although i think it'd be best to just ride wykem on saturday to get to know the course so you have it dialled for race runs

Go on enter this race ;)

The Dis-Dirt crew will be there in force as it has been adopted our team get-together weekend for some years now. It's a laid back weekend on a fairly mild course (so taking the edge off race runs), with the addition of evening activities and entertainment. There's the pub at the base of the road running up to the track top that has some decent dirt jumps behind the beer garden, Scarborough is nearby for a street ride and there's generally a bit of a rave going off near the camping area.

I'm not riding but I'll be there for sure.

My entry form went off today.
I agree with Ben, if we went up for the weekend it would just be to wykeham so we had a good bit of practice.

Anyone fancy going up there this sunday if its not too wet? scope the place out a bit n all.

See you there dis dirt :)

Ben

this weekend is good for me, we are cramming in a 4 bedrommed house with 13 of us until the people in our new house find a rented house they like, which could be a while! so any escuse to go out is a good one!

think about 10 minutes from that little village before dalby ;) (thrornton le dale :?)

Will
20-08-06, 13:41
The track is about 10miles from thrornton le dale, near dalby forest, you need to turn off left when you get to snainton and the car park is about 4 miles from the turn off.

If youre racing this, pray its dry..... ;)
The course is long, fairly straight, steep in places, rooty most of the way, fast as you dare go.... and bloody slippery in the wet.
The jumps are mostly badly thought out, most of them are simply too short. The couple of road jumps.... i looked at, ben nailed em;)
Did i say it was slippery? and very rooty?

Good fun course, but i wonder how the pallets will held up during a race. Hopefully they will be removed by then.

With the exception of the lower jumps and the pallets, the course is pretty good. But like i said pray its dry.

I had major steaming issues with my glasses. Stand about waiting for em to clear, put them on, go, 5secs later i couldnt see anything again. I put it down to the woods being very dense and humid this is something i need to get fixed before the race. That and my bike :(

Anyway, we did 1 full run then sessioned a few bits. We left around dinner time to go to dalby which is 10 mins drive away through the back of the forest. It was wet and raining but we thought we would ride anyhow. anyway, after a few laps of the skills course i hit the skinny... big mistake in the wet. Back wheel slid out, mech hit skinny, mech ripped out of frame again:( what a pisser!

Will

With your steaming issue have you thought about looking to googles like that Mr. Fish has got, i know its a bit late to buy from the states but an idea like that may work. Unlucky about your rear mech though.

Is the car park easy to find? and was there many other people there riding?

from mine and bens discussions, i think we are heading upto dalby early saturday morning, then over to wykeham sometime in the afternoon, if thats a good plan for you will, we could meet up at elsham top (a180/humber bridge turn)?

dave_mawe

hmmm well we found the bottom carpark.....eventually and the track is the track we've ridden before. the top 2 sections are pretty nice and i really like the bottom of the top going into the rooty bit of the second second but then you come to a sketchy crate jump. in fact you come to alot of pretty sketchy jumps specially in the bottom section. we did a few full run but mainly sessioned the bottom of the top section n the middle section before moving on to the skills area in dalby. they've got a good little project going on there althought not sure about the immediate sharp climb onto the climbing shore after the berm shute berm if you head straight on at the skills area. it was quite scary how many kids were riding without helmets and one kid on his bmx wearing a cap attempted the crazyily steep tabletops down the left he nearly stacked on all 3 tabletops but managed to stay on his bike lucky he did because he would have bin on his way to a&e for sure. and some of the skinnie stuff is very technical n twisty and tight. all in all i think i'll give racing on my hardtail a miss though because of the little travel my arms were dead on the last run.

Thanks for the offer Si but my parents said they want to come and watch so they are going to take me, we are going to head down on sunday morning because we might be off out on saturday. What time does the uplift start on sunday does anyone know?

WTF :hmm: do you think its somehow easier on a full sus, reality check dude :D when you do your race runs, your so focused you won't feel your aching arms until after your run ;) i thought you were a rockhard rugga chap ;)

Will
28-08-06, 21:45
Does anyone know what time the average uplift starts on a race day so i have a time to aim to get to Wykeham for?

Will

early like 8.30, i was thinking of padding up in the car or something so i calm down before the race time.

you oughta get yourself some lucazade too! I got it for caersws and cos it lets out the energy slowly unlike chocolate etc it keeps you going! have one before your practice runs and one before each race run, it helps, also apparently eat chocolate, it relaxes the mind but also helps you concentrate more. Most people hate it but dark chocolate is best! This is coming from my head of science by the way! It worked for me;)

Will
29-08-06, 23:01
You have to take water with it too cos' you will dehydrate, as the lucazade has sugar in it, i learnt that off dave!

dave_mawe
29-08-06, 23:07
not dehydrate fully but it doesn't hydrated like water would it just gives u the sugars. thats why i normally have so many bottles n camelbacks riding. lucozade n snacks for diabetes n bottle of water for hydration sakes

total crap!
the course is verging on dangerous, we thought the pallet north shore we saw the other week was gonna be taken down for the race....... no sir.. its a course feature, and a dangerous one at that.
After ben rode the track a few times, we called it a day and came home, as i think ben from dis dirt and his mate did.
That and the heavy rain all day and the lack of somewhere to pitch a tent and ben forgetting his waterproofs and spare cloths and and and.

the vertical lines are rain drops;)

I just hope its dry for caersws:)

Baker
02-09-06, 23:11
Tut tut tut ben, what does fish always say, "bring suitable clothes and a decent change" ;) So i take your not racing then! I sure hope it dry for caersws some of the mega dusty sections at midlands will be horendous in wet, 2foot of Sludgy crap, or nice dust!!!!!! I'd choose the dust;)

Will

I made the decision not to race as other, more experienced riders we not happy with the track I though it would have been better to race :( thanks for the update Si.

Ben

i forgot my rain coat and fleece which was a major mistake although riding with Dave Wardell wasnt too bad, he is stupidly fast, overshooting both road gaps, as Sime said the track was awful the pallets were green with slime and had a 3-4" run of chicken wire as grip along with extremily small doubles your mum could clear on her 3 speed, hmmmmm maybe go back some time when its improved some what!
