Thought i'd start a thread for the winter series seeing as though there is one for the summer series. The Dates have been released and they are as follows ;

Provisional dates: Jan 20/21, Feb 17/18, Mar 17/18
Venues still to be confirmed, being run solely by Pearce Cycles Race Team.
Practise/uplift Saturday, race Sunday.

I am going to ask the doc how my arm will be by the first round and whether i will be fit to race, the original 11weeks is up the weekend before so i'm hoping it should be ok, have to wait and see!

So who is up for some dirty weekends at the races ;)?

Fort those who would like a look at what the tracks may be here are a few from last year:

Hopton Castle;

Bringewood;
http://youtube.com/watch?v=KEcgeuY-6JM
They used bringewood twice last year so they may do the same again! Although the final round got Snowed off last year i think all who went will agree, it was a great track

:( Sorry about that how do you delete posts??? :(

Baker
16-11-06, 21:11
Not sure how to delete posts! I recon it is a good time for you to get into racing bacause been the same age as me you will only be able to race the winter series in Juvenile and next years summer series's you will be in youth i think! You are definitely up for it, i went into racing not even having done forktop so you should be able to nail most things the series throws at you!!! Show this to your Parents ;)!!!!!

dave_mawe
16-11-06, 21:57
He won't be in youth or juvenille, he'll be in hardtail  good man. wish i could get to races but serious lack of money and time and transport

Baker
16-11-06, 22:12
I think they have a Hardtail category for each age category though dont they!!!!! That is how it looked at Midlands, cos it is a bit harsh racing against say....... 20 year old HTers!!!!! Youd be last all the time!!!!!

Can someone confirm this please?

Fwogddy
16-11-06, 22:42
no theres just one hardtail category. its a minority group with a disvantage, racing say a DMR trailstar against a santacruz V10 just aint fair, but there aint enough people in the hardtail categorys to justify having different ages groups, and then theres the extra time it would take up...

dave_mawe
16-11-06, 22:42
hmmmm don't think they do. i know it wasn't at the bridgenorth downtown race. i just thought hardtail was hardtailers full stop

Cookie
16-11-06, 22:46
Not good

Will this be like 20 year olds against 15 year olds or smaller categories????

Danger Dean
16-11-06, 23:26
Does it matter Cookie? At the end of the day, if you've had fun, then do you care where you've placed? I know i wouldn't.

I won't be doing the winter series, don't like getting wet;)

21/22nd April will be the beginning of my racing career, start of the superseries:devil:

Ben

I will be doing the winter series for sure.....

Baker

Sorry, i was getting mixed up, people who don't wish to race against riders Like Jayden who seems to be winning one hell of alot in HT have been just entering themselves into their normal age category, i think this would be the best idea for you Rob and then there would be no real disadvantage other than riding a HT.

dave_mawe
17-11-06, 17:42
Would have to totally disagree with you baker. Although its up to rob. if you ride a HT in a full sus catergory your going to just get beat almost no doubt, it's more about having the fun and a HTer will learn alot more from riding with other HT riders, so what if Jayden wins everything atleast challenge him because nobodies perfect

Baker
17-11-06, 19:35
Yer i guess so although as i said there are a few riders in juvenile who ride HT!!! Totally up to you though rob..............!!!

Hatchleader
17-11-06, 19:44
i dont race but it seems to me that if you race HT you might get beat by jayden... but that still leaves silver and bronze and a good chance of a top 10 finish.... in Full sus you will have to be spectacularly quick to podium OR get top 10... and if your that quick then enter HT anyway and win it!! :D

Will
17-11-06, 21:18
Who knows he could kick the ass of the older HTers.

True Saxon

if you expect to do any good on your first race, you will most likely be disapointed (miracles excepted). Just go and have fun, thats all that is important really.
Racing HT against sussers..... might not be as bad as it sounds, there will always be those kids with no skills, rich parents and expensive shiny bikes;) theyve always existed and always will. everyone starts somewhere;)
I got beat by people riding hardtails at the NAMBS, ok so i came badly last:/ but i had broken ribs to show for it;)
I would go, enter the HT cat and just enjoy it. if you dont come last... bonus :)

fragy
24-11-06, 13:41
thinking of doing it this winter si? May have to give it a proper go this winter myself

dave_mawe
24-11-06, 18:08
I would say enter the HT catergory, we ride bikes because we enjoy to ride them so aslong as you enjoy it it doesn't really matter the experience of racing will add up and the results should come with time :)

Baker
27-11-06, 20:35
Right off the doc today.......................... got my cast off completely and if i get full movement back within 2 weeks there is no need for him to see me again. I asked him whether i could race first round too and he said straight away that he has no problem with that............................. now all i need is my dad's rotor to work with the dates!!!!!!!

Xpink
27-11-06, 20:50
I might race, i might not. I want to but my dad said that he might not take me because it's the wrong time of year??? I don't get it! If he says no then I hopefully will in another series. Who's definately racing?

Fwogddy
27-11-06, 21:04
its never the wrong time of the year to ride your bike!
i'll be racing anythat i can get too!

Xpink
27-11-06, 21:19
I know!!! I really want to race because it would be my first time and it will be so fun, even if I don't get a decent place! If my dad wanted to race then obviously i would go with him but he thinks that he's not good enough yet.

Baker
27-11-06, 21:21
I am hoping to do all of them and that too is down to been able to get to them and my dad's rotor/generosity!

More info too off descent-world;
Pearce Cycles Winter Downhill Series 2007

Pearce Cycles in Ludlow, Shropshire can announce that their ever popular Winter Downhill race series will be taking place in 2007.

After 5 years of much appreciated support, Specialized Uk Ltd will no longer be sponsoring the Winter Series.
However, Pearce Cycles are very pleased to announce that Iron Horse will be supporting the series along with Descent Gear and Burgtec.

The usual venues of Hopton and Bringewood will be used but with a few tweaks here and there to keep the riders on their toes and a new course for round 3 at Hopton.

The usual friendly faces will be there – Extreme Medics, Janet’s Jacket Potatoes and of course the Pearce Cycles crew on registration and timing.

The format will be practise day on the Saturday and race day Sunday. Numbers will be limited to 250 and these are usually filled well before race day, so get your entry in soon.

For more details and race entry forms check out www.pearcecycles.co.uk or ring 01584 879288

So the winter series is actually going ahead?

Last i heard was that the whole thing may be cancelled with all the recent uplift problems. I guess Dave Pearce must have come to some agreement with the FC finally?

Baker
15-12-06, 21:11
Yeer that is also mentioned on the same thread as the info i posted, some thing to do with emailing some guy at the fc...........

Not too sure but it looks like me and my dad will only be in for the last round although this aint definite yet as we dont have his 2007 rotor thing.

Danger Dean
15-12-06, 22:15

That'll teach me not to read the links first;)

Well, if the winter series is going ahead then surely the summer series will be? Hope so, as i plan to start my race career this year:)

Baker
15-12-06, 23:55
I should think some of the summer series would have gone ahead anyway as a few of the tracks they use are private land anyway e.g. Caersws, I think they will come to a decent agreement soon though, well they better had!

This series is completely off for me and my dad now! All the weekends they are on, my dad is working! So after some searching i found this

http://dm27.com/nacc/winter0607/default.htm

they seem to have some decent venues so if some of you are in the same situation as us you may want to consider this series!?

Fwogddy
18-02-07, 20:34
went terribly! my goggles kept steaming up for i stacked it on the last table becuse i couldnt even see in on a practise run, and i just kept sliding out all day. on my final race run i went over the bars, got ran over by some kid on a DH team and spent 2 minutes with marshalls trying to untangle me outta my bike after dragging me off the course.

so yeah, really really not good, but i had a laugh! which is all that matters!

Baker
18-02-07, 20:38
Thats not good then!!! should have done without goggles for the second run! i had to on my first race n it went fine! a few bits of dirt in my eye but better than no vision at all!

Good to hear you had a laugh though!
