View Full Version : Pump em Up
went up the woods thursday night to use up the rest of cement to find a super dried out DH track, its solid, and extremily fast rolling meaning harder tyres, so mini pumps at the ready :) aswell as medical swabs and plasters for road rash :filthy: av fun see youaall up soon
Ben
YeY it's dry. Lets just hope it stays that way.
well its still dry todays for sure, little bit of carved up surface mud but the jumps are looking fassst. Has the berm after T9/splashdown/M25 been cemented a little ? it looks smooth.
yes it has, impressed? :D whats your opinions on the (not yet named) step down
i know i've dismissed the use of logs for bulking out jumps etc, however on this occasion the logs are large well seasoned oak that will take years to decay
lol wasnt it cut down because it was rotten :P
but neh itl be fine, not to mention itl crumble if you dab a peddle on it rather that caput you into a tree,
the oak may have looked rotten ,thats because oak has a soft layer under the bark and, because its soft it decays much faster but below this is the "hardwood" core which can take decades to decay to soft mush, which is why they used to make ships out of it, the tree was cut because the smaller upper branchs were so brittle and very heavy that if someone collided with it the upper branchs could snap and errrrr hit you on the head :thumb: :D
i saw a little kid faceplant on your first north shore it was dead funny
it was lee meadlys little bro and he's about 10 years old
was he ok ? and was he wearing a lid?and what bike was he on?
no he was not and yes he is ok because we gave him 60p for his bravery but it was one of those be there moments it was dead good lee meadlys little bro is a legend
james meadly is a legend

a tad harsh but a very valid point, its just this kind of incident that gets people worked up,leading to major hassle, tell folks the rule!

maybe harsh, but seems people still dont understand they need to wear a helmet to ride the trails. perhaps the sign at the start isnt big enough?
but picture poor lil jonny going home with his face all smashed up... i dont think him telling his parents "well i got 60 pence for it" will cut anything, do you? they most likely would be straight on our backs, or onto the FC......
rules are there for a good reason, its up to evryone to act responsibly and to enforce the rules...
hey he wanted to do it adn the sign was not there. riding is about having no rules and boundries to stop you from doing what you want
its also about calculating risks and doing that particular drop with next to no riding experience and no helmet, well it just isnt really.
if you feel you can do them do them to me that is the only way you can get good and if you show no fear in it well your on your way thats how i learnt by people telling me that i could do them and me thinking yes i can and just go for it

OMG!
if you think riding is about having no rules and no boundaries.. youre a bigger fool than i first thought.
wonder how long your new skatepark will last if your all there with no helmets... untill lil jonnys mum and dad complain to the council and the council close it...
seen it all too often.
We made simple, easy to follow rules for riding our trails.. these are for a reason..
we want the project to grow and develop... not get condemned because people think they can run before they can walk.
i better go and calm down before i really start to fly off.
Simple answer is, if youre not prepared to follow the rules.... dont bother showing up at all!
ok lets get back to earth, the kid was ok.....this time,i watched my mate ride off a nshore feature last year and he broke his back and had 6months of work and no serious riding for 9 months,he had a helmet on,but it was shite for that kind of stuff.
so i don't give a toss about anyone's personal politics, anyone who wants to ride at hamhill MUST WEAR A FU@KING HELMET!
we are all responsable for this project's success, watching people ride off nshore with no lid and no experience for 60p is going to get us all in deep shit :badmood:
i thought i made it clear about lids when we talked up there last sunday, when in fact you were wearing that rather fetching pink number on your head :D didn't look like it was cramping your style at all
dude this kid looks up to you lot !! and he wants to do what you do and if he got hurt badi would take full responseablity for it so you lot and your project don't fu** up

if only life was that simple :hmm: you are under 18 and in the eyes of the law not old enough to be responsable for others, but old enough to point out if someone ain't got a lid on,i dont have a problem if some kid wants to try riding nshore just so long as they wear a lid and think about what their doing.
[Comment removed by administrator]..............SO WEAR A HELMET :badmood:

To add a bit to what mr fish said, its good that young people are "looking up to us lot" but "us lot" always wear helmets. It is also a good idea that any person riding our trails or anything else technical has basic bike handling skills, this is stated in our trail rules. At 10 years old, a person is not legally responsible. He might not be bothered about hurting himself, his parents could have a totally different view.
I have been riding a bike "properly" (if you can call it that) for over 20 years (BMX/MTB) i still find it possible to hurt myself riding stuff i have rode 100's of times before.
I hope that you youngsters show a little maturity from now on, and respect our rules. They are there to benefit evryone riding, not to give us something to moan about.
Hopefully, lessons have been learnt now, and the message has sunk in.
Peace.
ok if i see it happen again i will tell them not to
"youngsters show a little maturity from now on"
please dont imply that all "youngsters" are imature,
uve gota admit, it sounds pretty ignorant.
Wear a helmet if ure riding are trails, its simple makes sense and wont make u any less of a rider.
what if people want to ride ur trails but don't have a helmet
buy one , tenner from argos lol or 20 quid for a piss pot. Not really that much of a price.

No helmet, no ride (full stop).
no helmet no ride on out trails (recorected full stop).
but people aint gonna stop them though they will not always be there
True. We cant MAKE people wear helmets but we have to do are best to encourage and advise people to.
OK back to the original thread topic!
i guess i spoke too soon, although the track is getting dryer their is no obvoius progress in the weather, and for the people who are interested in bike set up its playing hell at the mo, take the yesturday for example, nice and (well relitivly) dry in the mornin good riding weather so on and so forth,.. come 3.00ish the track was a flowing river!
i suppose you can never really predict english weather (well should have known) but all i can say is 'roll on summer' you know those 2-3 weeks in england where that big bright thing comes out in the sky and drys everything up.
yea i came this close *makes thumb and index finger gesture* to putting ye good olde wetscreams back on yeterday!
At risk of fanning the flames once more..... i for one have respect for the lad boinging off stuff with little regard for his well-being and i'm sure we're fairly united in that BUT:
Some rules have to be OBEYED by everybody - namely the Laws of Physics which can abruptly end your riding for good.
If you wanna get better at riding, it's best not to be off your bike for weeks/months/years trying to suck liquidised food thru a straw or havin your Ma n Pa keeping a 24hr vigil over you in an intensive care unit, eh? Even kids rubber bones break if you try hard enuf. Wear a lid. If it's not cool then neither are Peaty, Gracia, Athertons, Nyquist, Hoffman, Bestwick, Pastrama, McGrath, Rossi, blah blah blah
well said Dr Nimul. i think helmets are pretty cool anyway. so it very simple, wear one, its a shame to think people need to have an accident to see how much one needs to be worn.
 Doctor knows best
as one of the younger riders i have never been to the woods with out a lid when on my bike.Even when i went on bike rides with my dad. WEAR A LID.
